Top of the World
I drove two hours south of Saco on this road.
And then an hour up this road.
After about 20 minutes, a truck came along with a man, a woman, a girl, and two puppies in it. I told them I was doing a bird survey ten miles up this road. He said they were just “bouncin’ around.” They came from Glasgow. When I asked for directions, he said, “Just follow my tracks and they’ll take you to Glasgow.”
The gumbo has dried out.
I camped at the top of the world.
Next morning, I found two birds I’ve never seen before:
